Celebrate Mother’s Day E’ry Day
Can’t think of a better way to spend this Hallmark Day
Though I do not care to celebrate Mother’s Day for myself, it brings me great joy to help other families celebrate either the one who brought them into this world or those who raised or helped raise others’ biological children. For the second year in a row, I had to go to Legacy West for Mother’s Day portraits.
We celebrated Moms whose babies are now adulting away, we celebrated expecting mothers, Mama Bears who were experiencing their first Mother’s Day and one mom who lost her partner in December who treated her three babies to a fancy steak dinner. These personal portrait sessions are oh-so different than my typical day spent with corporate headshots, Fortune-500 event photography and branding sessions.
This is being written the day after back-to-back photography sessions, complete with sweet bouquets created by our friends at Sand and Soil Flowers. As my puppers Kibbles and Ruffles and I took our morning walk, we skipped across art chalking the walk. One creation caught my attention. Adorned in angel wings were the dates 08/13/86-08/20/21. Underneath was the verbiage “I miss you every day, Mami.” Below was a bleeding chalk-pink heart. If that doesn’t make you hug your mom a bit tighter, I don’t know what does.
Please respond to our blog your top three favorite things about your Mom and/or the mother figure in your life.
While I wait for your responses, here why I thank God for the gift of my parents each and every day:
-
They led my brother and myself by example to be moral, hard-working, honest and kind people.
-
Now married for 54 years, they taught us (again by example) about commitment, love and the importance of family.
-
Having argued only twice during my childhood, they backed up their examples of kindness, commitment and love. (This is unrealistic by my standards, but I am in awe and admiration that they’ve been able to remain kind and considerate of their differences.) Whenever I return home from a visit with the Perfect Couple, my husband is treated in a kinder, gentler and more respectful manner.
While you will find my photographers dotting the Dallas Metroplex on any given day, I am selfishly going to be personally capturing Mother’s Day portraits at LW! See you next year?
