Now Let's Take a Silly One
Who says corporate work has to be boring?
Olivia Warren
PBM Creative/Assistant
It isn’t typically a photographer’s dream to shoot for corporations. A creative typically delights in flexibility, diving into their brains to come up with something unique[y different. At PBMisty we have processes and procedures to follow, enabling us to deliver story-telling event images, as well as perfectly lit and posed headshots.
While it is imperative our team members have photography skills and know how to follow procedure, the most important qualification is a passion for people.
While most creatives would compare corporate work to a roadtrip to Snoozeville (with no "World's Largest" anything along the way), we are energized by working with the unique personalities found within each corporation.
Yet... we still like to get our creative on...
Let's examine some ways to zest up photography in a corporate setting and bullishly provide ideas for how your brand can incorporate more excitement into your next scheduled shoot!
To keep our photographers and assistants jazzed not only about the people we work with but also their assignments, our narrative is experiencing change! Variety is the spice of life, and we'll start enhancing the recipe of corporate work.
Recently, as time allows (and depending on the assignment), PBM team's are encouraged to dedicate 10% of their work to thinking outside the corporate box. Some examples:
- Whether we wrap up early or have gaps within our allotted time, photographers can encourage people to have fun in front of our cameras.
- Once at a corporate event, the CFO pulled Misty aside, as he just needed someone to talk to... he wasn't exactly living his best life at the time. They ended up taking some dating profile pictures.
- Headshots for our long-term client Certus Engineering in Addison include a typical professional image as well as a personality shot. Those have ranged from cheerleader jumps to a mock strip tease. These girls and guys are far from your average engineering firm. See Santa picture from last year.
- In-Studio headshots can include story-telling props. Last week, one guy brought his belt buckle and Cowboy Hat, as he wants people to know he's now a proud Texan.
Candid photography and behind-the-scenes images of headshots or events are another way to bring excitement to every project. It's also sets the scene for what to expect when we come to you. We great job posting things like this on LinkedIn - stay tuned for interactive posts promoting deals!
The photographer is only sometimes entirely responsible for bringing creativity to a project. Sometimes companies provide opportunities through inventions or rebranding of their own. For example, PBMisty worked alongside Cheddars in 2019 to capture the local croissant corsage offer - available during the Dallas prom season! The idea was generated due to a viral moment in 2017 when a high schooler received a text from her prom date inquiring about her wearing a croissant instead of a corsage.
This autocorrect mishap inspired the teen to wear a corsage made out of the crescent-shaped roll that gained a lot of publicity on the internet. When Cheddars heard the news, the Irving, Texas-based scratch kitchen felt inspired to take action and develop a rendition of their own. Teaming up with a Dallas florist, Petals & Stems, the croissant corsage went from comical to profitable! Read more about the business partnership between the two DFW-based companies here.
Misty and assistant Ariel were delighted by the Allen assignment for the chance to combine elements incorporating a corporate assignment, with creative, branding and product photography- all in one shoot! The team found themselves standing on tables, climbing 30-ft ladders, and snacking along the way. Unfortunately in all the excitement, renowned chef Alex Guarnaschelli (@guarnaschelli) ended up giving another photographer credit for PBMisty’s work on Instagram.
Hey, things happen- we were just happy to see our Plano-based photography company represented on the social media of someone famous!
Thankfully, there is no time like the present. Other opportunities will come to fruition. Incorporating more fun into each shoot will, no doubt, inspire a world of creative endeavors from both the PBMisty team and local companies.
Generating excitement for corporate or branding photography can be simple and inexpensive. Do you remember taking a group picture during childhood and getting asked to take a silly one? Something as effortless as this during team portraits can lighten the mood while providing a space for everyone to show up as their silly selves. We also find it entertaining when some opt not to play along - being true to their no-nonsense selves.
So what do you say? Reach out today with your company's creative endeavors, corporate photography needs, or event neds. Book PBMisty and have some fun!
