Spreading Cheer this 2020 Year!!
There was a time (about 13 years ago) that I said we at Photography by Misty would not take on Santa events. Although a strange comparison, finding a legit Santa is like finding great swim lessons. My family wasted a lot of money on lessons before my children went from crying poolside to defying the weight of the waters at Emler Swim School. (My other top choice is Aqua-Fit, where they have a program for children with disabilities. ) My Rhylie went on to become a state swimmer. While not a life-saving service, finding a great Santa experience is also important and fairly difficult to find (we used to always head to North Park, where Santa may have had a tinge of red in his beard - I know I am a Santa snob - but he was a child psychologist in the off-season), and there was no way PbM was going to work with a cheesy, fake-bearded Santa.
Well…. I have learned to never say never. In the early 2000s, I was asked by my friend Angie Carroll (then with the Heritage Farmstead) to be the Santa photographer for their annual Lantern Light event (this year looks a little different, of course). I was hesitant as I had not yet met Santa, but I said yes anyway. And I was ever-so-happy I did. He is gorgeous, and we have been rocking Christmas events ever since. He plays St. Nick in memory of his deceased wife, who was a school teacher.
And here we go again. I also used to say when My Santa was no longer able to skip to his chair, Photography by Misty would not offer the North Pole experience. Aside from Canyon Creek CC, our country club friends (our normal venues) aren’t booking Santa this year, and my dear friend of 12 years cannot risk his health. Oh but Mr. S is exactly what children need as 2020 comes to a close.
The Legacy West and Photography by Misty teams decided we must #SaveSanta2020. Luckily we were introduced to another beautiful man, who normally heads to Waco in December to trick at the Magnolia (you know, Chip & Joanna Gaines empire). Lucky for those of us in DFW, Baylor territory will not be this Santa’s stomping grounds in 2020. Our Santa & his Mrs. are graduates of Northern Lights Santa Academy, the International University of Santa Claus. Who knew? I certainly didn’t but I am glad I know now!! We will be rockin’ Legacy West the last Friday and Saturday in November as well as every Saturday in December, by appointment only.
What we are most proud of this year, however is #BlackSanta. What took us so darn long? Not sure, but we are in love with this guy and will be in Legacy West on December Sundays. Nope, he’s not degreed from any Santa school and he doesn’t even have much of a belly. Oh, but that smile and that beard (now even better than what you see in our pictures). And, you know where his degree comes from? The United States Army, Baby!! He is a decorated and disabled vet, who smokes up some mean barbecue and spreads peace, love, joy and smiles wherever he goes.
We guarantee your children will hold their Legacy West & Photography by Misty Santa experience near and dear in their memory banks. And, if you decide to peruse our Pop-Up Santa Shoppe, you’ll have a tiny treasure, too. Hope to see you there!

Christine - Hi, are the Santa photos at Legacy West dog friendly? I am actually ambivalent on Santa, but I'm definitely interested in photos of my Greyhound in the sleigh. Please let me know. Thanks, Christine (PS I sent a message on Facebook but got a strange auto-reply, so sending it here too, just in case)
