There’s so much about Spring that takes me on a whimsical journey. Tulips pop, bunnies birth, senses heighten, humans thrive. There were several years, however, where the April showers bringing May flowers scared me. A little strange, I know.
A little back story. My husband and I dated for six years before we tied the knot. And we broke up three out of those six Spring seasons. I blamed it on the newness, the freshness, ultimately the rebirth of the Earth. The season brings about a spring in people’s step and a sense of adventure. It doesn’t scare me anymore. Instead, I find it nothing but exhilarating.
Senior Portraits
Let’s cash in while it lasts (not long enough here in Texas). It is my favorite season for so many reasons, but I also find it the optimal time of year for portraits. Instead of taking high school senior portraits in the summer or fall, I prefer March or April. With more than 18 years of experience, I know graduating seniors change an incredible amount between the summer before commencement and that spring. Unless you’re going for dual portrait sessions, your money is better spent on blocking time off for Spring Break. If you try to send out wallets from last summer’s session, you will have a senior with attitude on your hands. Although this could be an added layer of protection for soon-to-be empty nesters. We’ll be here Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall… all you have to do is call.
While the majority of our business is corporate photography, associate photographers Jenny and Kenneth, and I enjoy our senior sessions more than any other. The subjects are young, beautiful, idealistic, and very into themselves.
Bunny Mini Sessions
Then there are the bunnies. If you’ve ever been a Photography by Misty client, then you know when the winter snows begin to melt, we rent (yes, rent) bunnies. For more than 15 years we have hosted a Good Friday egg hunt, complete with breakfast, games, and, well yes, portraits with live bunnies. This year, we are totally making up for 2020. Our photography team will be hopping about Canyon Creek Country Club, Overland Trail Park as always on Good Friday, and Legacy West in a specially curated space. Pastel-colored cupcakes from Sprinkles and live bunnies - life just doesn’t get any better.
Bluebonnet Sessions
Last but certainly not least, warmer weather means Photography by Misty will be renting the Ennis cabin nestled in the bluebonnets. I used to try and chase bluebonnets all over the Metroplex. Then I remembered a saying from the guy who first taught me about digital photography, “If you instantly want to become a better photographer, take pictures of famous places. There’s a reason they are famous.” I have taken a family portrait in the bluebonnets anywhere but the Bluebonnet Trail since.
‘tis the season to celebrate life - whether it’s new life or just a new perspective on the one you already have created. We’d love nothing more than to be a part of your journey.
Photography by Misty. life. capture it.
