Even though personalities shine in formal portraiture, my favorite images have always been candids.
Take V, for instance. We’d wrapped up our headshot session, but in typical Photography by Misty fashion, our conversation continued to flow like a champagne fountain. During those last several minutes together, V relaxed into a stance I’m guessing anyone who knows her would find familiar. As she continued to talk about her daughter’s dance recital, I just had to squeeze in a couple more shots. To me, she was the most beautiful when she was speaking about her child and she wasn’t being told to tip her head, rotate toward me or relax her smile.
Then there’s this shot of J and P. Married for more than 40 years, they obviously still enjoy one another’s company. While we got some beautiful formal portraits, I can’t help but think about how much their recently married daughter will treasure this laughter-filled image. It is certainly a feel-good image, yet so much more can be read into its silent presence. This Arlington portrait whispers to me that a marriage is worth the work it takes to make it an eternal flame (maybe a bit corny, I know, but I just love my business).
Whether I am getting to know people in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano or across the United States, I find great joy in capturing people’s authentic selves.
