Her ye, her ye
Melanie Murphy is in the house
And now, so are you
When first asked to rock n' roll with camera in hand, starting at 7 AM for something called The Business Casuals Sunrise Show, I said yes only because my good friend Dean Lindsay was going to be at the helm. If Dean asks, I follow. He’s fun to watch and is always headed somewhere interesting; I thrive off adventure.
Upon arriving, I was pleasantly shocked by the event space. The Trade Group, nestled in an industrial part of (nope, not Dallas) Carrollton, is like stepping into a futuristic world. We sit (well, everyone else sits) in blow-up chairs. Larger-than-life characters lurk around every corner and super modern pop-up rooms invite me to call this place home.
And if the space and my friend Dean weren’t enough to bring me back month after month, the program is pure and simple greatness. It’s entertaining, informative and, thanks to Melanie Murphy, attendees get to rise to their feet, awakening their senses at least once during the program. Even with coffee in hand, those rising and grinding this early in the morning have a tendency to wander to Snoozeville. If me telling you this is an interactive program isn’t enough, there’s also donuts and open networking with people like Al DeBerry, CEO of the Hotel Association of North Texas.
Melanie is a voiceover artist. So you might ask yourself, why would the average person want to bow out on a couple hours of sleep to listen to what is normally off-camera commentary? Heck, we may as well watch a Cheetos commercial or a GoDaddy You-Tube video (yes, Melanie has worked with these powerhouses). Au contraire, My Friend. Melanie takes what she’s learned as an accomplished voice-over artist and teaches us everyday application, boosting self confidence (most attractive thing one can wear) and awareness.
We might already know to drink only water before giving a presentation, but do you know how to breathe through your butt? Do you know how some of the most successful lawyers physically prepare for closing arguments? Why in the world would you need to know? Hmmm, practical application and continuing education enhance everyone’s life. It’s not about being the most boisterous in the room; it’s about articulating well, projecting in a manner that makes your audience or your future Girl Boss sit up and listen. What Melanie Murphy brings to the Business Casuals is not only the same versatility, creativity and enthusiasm her clients brag about, she gives attendees great takeaways they’re not going to find at any other early-morning event.
Three months ago, Melanie and I were mere acquaintances. Now? I kinda love the girl. And not just for selfish purposes. I love that she’s a giver, and I love how much she and her hubs adore one another.
Come hang out with us the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 AM to indulge in donuts sponsored by HANTX and coffee brought to you by Royal Cup Coffee and Tea, all while soaking in the visual beauty of the Trade Group. And come for the intimate networking, entertainment and great takeaways. That’s The Business Casuals at the Trade Group, featuring Melanie Murphy and Dean Lindsay. Who knows, maybe we’ll build that self confidence even higher by offering updated headshots with Photography by Misty (I just had to get in a shameless plug somewhere).
