Whether a multi-millionaire five times over or the mail carrier with six healthy, happy children and a wife he adores, a person’s success is not how other people define them. It’s how they define happiness. So, roll out the red carpet, and invite everyone to life’s party.
This spoke to me loud and clear from cheering crowds about 20 years ago. I was running a marathon in Cozumel. On the backside of the island, people came out of their homes (lean-tos in some cases) to cheer on the runners. They had so little that the portable potties were not set out until that morning for fear they would be stolen, and toddlers jumped up and down pantless because their parents could not afford diapers. It was the poorest living conditions I’ve ever witnessed, yet those smiles full of more black spaces than teeth were the largest, most genuine beaming expressions.
“We all just wanna be a big rockstar” I believe is true. However, Nickelback’s Rockstar definition might not hold true for all of us. Afterall, Kid Rock is banking, but he lives in a camouflaged mobile home (great interview with Dan Rather), instead of a brand new house from an episode of Cribs. And having the stage on which to profess his love of “Merica means more to him than a star on Hollywood Boulevard.
While there is not a one liner definition of success, everyone knows that beauty is also in the eye of the beholder. Take for instance, my clients. They are all beautiful and not because they were born with perfectly symmetrical faces, not because they’ve all had plastics surgeries or are pumping Botox through their veins. And, no I don’t only take attractive clients nor do I PhotoShop the s*** (as one client has asked me to do) out of them. Quite honestly, I find almost everyone beautiful. And then I like to share that beauty with others to preserve their lives or markets their businesses. We like to flip the inner beauty out to enhance what’s on the outside. After all, one shouldn't have to produce a platinum album or a box-office hit to feel #RedCarpetWorthy. At Photography by Misty, everyone is a rockstar.
