For more than a decade, the Photography by Misty team has offered a Good Friday egg hunt event, complete with a light breakfast, an egg hunt, and the highlight of beautiful portraits with live bunnies in Plano, TX. The very first one was really pathetic. I don’t even think there were bunnies involved. It had nothing to do with photography, actually. I believe I offered it out of my love for Easter. Two moms and their babies showed up.
However, I didn’t give up and just gets bigger every year. I purposely didn’t say better, because, quite honestly, it doesn’t get better every year. The photography does get better every year. And we no longer let babies hold bunnies (we learned our lesson the first year). So in many ways, it is more improved each year. However, the best year ever (you know the lingo: everything is now the best, the greatest, the oldest, the whatever ever). I wish I could remember the year, but it’s always a blur with an egg hunt here, portraits here, portraits there, bunnies & children everywhere. Regardless, the best year ever was the year Bill Cody with Party Time Texas graced us with his presence.
Not only did he spin some great tunes, but he orchestrated games, including a hula hoop contest (which even Mimi with Aqua-Fit participated in) and even made announcements. People had so much fun, and I really appreciated that he kept some of the madness in check. And I know the sponsors enjoyed it too, as I gave them shoutouts throughout the morning.
I’ve been to and hosted my share of great, mediocre, and lame parties. In my humble opinion, as I am far from a party planner, throwing a memorable time. Includes:
-
Great food
-
At least a few choice libations
-
Uplifting music
-
Communication for a sense of what’s going on
-
Entertainment
-
Documentation; I’d say in the form of photography
-
A little something for the guests to take home. And, no, not a trinket to be tossed in the junk drawer. May I suggest a photobooth to serve threefold: social media brags, a printed reminder of the day, and an activity for any lulls in the evening.
On your mark, get set, let’s get ready to party.
